Well, yesterday was a very sad day in our household. We had to put down our oldest family pet. We rescued Liza and her daughter Annie, from an abusive home about 12 1/2 years ago.
She has been with Andrea and I since we first started living together, all the way back in 96. She has seen many homes and several states and was always a trooper for her new surroundings.
She even accepted our newest addition to the family with Lexie, our yellow lab. After a short time she finally gave in even became friends with Lex. They would roam the yard together as if on a secret mission. Lex, would always follow her around and even try to get her to play. Which on a rare occasion Liza would oblige.
I will say that even up until the very end, I would catch her playing with the kid’s toys after they had gone to sleep. She loved the little people and played with them whenever no one was watching.
Our lives have definitely been better because our her and her love and companionship will be strongly missed. Liza was the kid’s favorite because she was so gentle and caring towards them. (Even when they chased after her and tried to pick her up.)
It’s amazing how such a bond is formed with our pets and how they become an integral part of our families. For all that have pets and understand, this is the toughest part about being blessed with them.
We all know that chances are we are going to have to go through this, but we still go ahead anyway because of the love and affection they bring into our lives.
I am so very grateful that our family had the opportunity to have such a wonderful addition to it, even if it was for only 12 years.
Liza you will be missed.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackDamian, I’m sorry to hear about the loss of Liza. Esther and I have 4 dogs, (last year we had 5, but our 23 year old dog, Bo finally passed.
They are family and just like our own kids, so it’s tough when that happens.
Hope you get another one to fill the void eventually
